The Comparison Game & How to Overcome It

In today’s world, it is so easy to fall into the rabbit hole of comparing ourselves to others. We look at others’ lives, jobs, and health and wish certain aspects were our own. However while doing so, we also disregard our own successes and the good in our own lives!

Friends, Theodore Roosevelt said it best: Comparison is the thief of joy.

Instead of playing the comparison game, it’s important we know our worth and focus on our own journeys instead. This can be easier said than done, so today I’d like to share my top tips that have helped me personally overcome the game and find confidence in myself and my own journey in life.

#1 - Surround yourself with those that lift you up. Do you have a friend that you truly love being around and feel SO good after spending time with them? Find more people like that! Those that are interested in what’s going on in your world, and allow you to share without judgement are your people. They push you to be better and work towards your goals, while also celebrating with you as you succeed. Those who don’t make you feel like that? Don’t spend the time! This may sound brutal, but when it comes to self-love, you need uplifting people in your life more than anything else.

#2 - Speak positive affirmations. Each day, look in the mirror and say three positive affirmations about yourself. Think about the qualities you admire about yourself and shout them out! I am beautiful. I am smart. I am a great mother. Putting it out in the universe and saying it over and over until you begin to live those words day to day is so powerful!

#3 - Celebrate your successes. Have you overcome something recently that once seemed challenging or impossible? It’s time to celebrate! Be proud of how far you have come and take note of your progress! These small victories lead to big ones, and they should be recognized each step of the way.

#4 - Focus on YOU. It can be so easy to get caught up scrolling on social media and comparing lives with your friends (or even those you don’t know!).  Keep in mind that we often share the highlight reel on these platforms! This is when it becomes SO important to focus on yourself and not others. Yes, their highlight reel looks fun and exciting - but look at yours! Focus on the good in your life and make that all that truly matters.

The comparison game can take a toll on us - but only if we let it! Friends, it’s time we know our worth, surround ourselves with those who love and support us, and focus on our own journeys. When we do that, we win the comparison game and truly overcome it!

Cheers!
