Snacks for Memorial Day

Memorial Day is the kick off of the summer season for many of us. BBQ’s, camping trips, family get togethers, and more - often the poor food choice options are everywhere.  Here’s the thing, friends- we’ve got to have balance in life and enjoy treats on occasion! You will never hear me preach something I don’t follow and that’s why Carb Cycling and Intermittent Fasting as a lifestyle works so well for me and hundreds of clients who do the same.

I won’t tell you to not enjoy your favorite dessert or drink or cheeseburger off the grill to say hello to summer, I would LOVE to teach you how to do this in a sustainable way that allows you enjoy and not have regrets and to not over-do it!

That said, today I want to share a few great “healthy” snacks to consider having on had as you get out and celebrate this weekend. Whether at the campground, around the BBQ or out on the town, these are great options to have with you so you don’t go off the rails:

Skinny Cocktails (try this one from

Skinny Watermelon Mojito

  • 1 cup watermelon, seeded roughly chopped

  • ½ lime, juiced

  • 4 mint leaves

  • ice

  • 1 fl. oz. Bacardi Rum (use white rum)

  • club soda

  1. In a blender, process watermelon until liquefied. Pour into a glass.

  2. In a small bowl, muddle together the lime juice and mint leaves. Pour over the top of the watermelon. Fill the glass with ice and top with rum and club soda.

  3. Garnish with mint leaves and watermelon wedge if desired.

  4. Note: If the water melon is not to sweet, add ½ tsp. of fine sugar.

Trail Mix with Dried Fruit to control that sweet/salty craving (you could even throw in a few dark chocolate pieces to satisfy that chocolate craving).  Here’s a great one:

RX Bars, super clean protein packed, tasty and filling.  SO many flavors to choose from:

Beef Jerky or Meat Sticks, protein and filling all in one snack. Be sure to watch the sugars on these and find the cleanest option possible.  I like:

Chocolate for dessert, because sometimes we need a good dessert that we know won’t hurt our tummy. This dairy free Chocolate bar is amazing:

Plus the regular standby’s are always good:

Veggie Tray with Greek Yogurt Dips (Litehouse makes amazing ones called Opa)

Fruit Salad or Fruit Try

Rice Cracker with Hummus

Rice cakes and Peanut Butter

Or bring my Clean Deviled Egg Recipe with you to your gathering :)
