I don’t know about you, but in my past I spent more time than I care to admit comparing myself to other women. But why do we do that? We find ourselves asking, “What does she have that I don’t?” This mindset is not only unhealthy, but it can severely damage our self-esteem and is potentially dangerous.

If we really sit down and think about it, what’s the use of comparing ourselves to others? Here are a few reasons why women continue to compare themselves to others and why it’s time to stop.

  1. Motivation: While it’s true that some women find motivation in comparing themselves with others, it can be easy to fall in to the trap of not doing something for the betterment of yourself, but simply to just be better than someone else. It can end up undermining your spirits and actually keep you away from your goal instead of bringing you closer to it.

  2. Superficiality: Sometimes women can be superficial (myself included!), and we compare our material things. We are so quick to compare our bodies, boyfriends, clothing, finances, homes, cars, etc. We spend so much time focusing on the material matters instead of the things that truly matter most. We rarely compare our kindness or good character to that of other women, when in fact that is where we should be striving to be better.

  3. Social Media: There is always going to be someone out there with better hair, whiter teeth, longer eyelashes, fuller lips, a tinier waist, more followers on Instagram, more comments on every post, and better selfie skills. Just remember that this is also the “highlight reel” of every individual.  Have you ever stopped to think that the exact opposite is also possible - there are those out there that are in worse situations than you??

Each and every woman is special and unique in their own way! Beauty, success, and true happiness comes in many different shapes, sizes, and ways, so drop the pressure of living up to an idea of perfection that doesn’t even exist.
