There is so much information out there about fat loss right?! And it’s CONFUSING! So I’m here today to give you my top three workout tips for women who are wanting to focus on FAT LOSS. And they may surprise you.

  1. HIIT Cardio 3x per week. High Intensity Interval Training is one of the most effective way to burn fat. The days of long drawn out cardio are OVER - and isn’t that amazing?! HIIT is where you focus on all-out intensity, fast as you can go, for a short amount of time. I like to have my clients get their heart rate up to at least 80-90% of max during this time. The high intensity interval time is followed by a rest time to allow your heart rate to come back down. The trick is not letting your body get used to that particular interval time - you are always keeping it guessing.   2. Strength train at least 2-3x per week. Ladies, you need to be lifting weights in order to lose fat. Yes, you heard me right. Building muscle will actually have you increasing your metabolic rate and have you burning more fat at rest. How awesome is that?! One pound of muscle can burn up to 20 calories per hour doing absolutely NOTHING. Whereas one pound of fat only burns about 5 calories per hour doing nothing. So as much as you may be scared to lift weights, thinking you will get bulky etc, the truth of the matter is, you will shed more fat with the more muscle mass you focus on building.

  3. Add in Yoga 1-2x week. Yoga is not just stretching… trust me - it can be tough and torch those calories. It has taken me many years to get to a point where I actually enjoy doing yoga. But what I like about it for fat loss is the different approach. Yes yoga burns calories, but what it also does is helps destress you. Stress can be a huge culprit of belly fat and when you take time out to destress, focus on your breath, and stretch, you are able to reduce cortisol levels significantly. So not only are you burning calories, but you are helping get your body back to a homeostasis state and thus burning more fat.
