Stop Eating Breakfast!

Intermittent Fasting, or IF, is one of the core components in the FASTer Way to Fat Loss®. Why? Simple -  it is the best method for fat loss, contrary to what we have been led to believe in the breakfast industry.

Intermittent Fasting is a method in which one focuses upon hydration and allowing the body to repair in the early hours of the day rather than eating. In the FWTFL, we follow a 16/8 protocol - eating for eight hours of the day and fasting for the following sixteen. For me personally, this means I will break my fast around 11am and eat until 7pm and repeat the next day. My calories are not restricted; I am able to get all of the calories and macronutrients in for the day as I normally would, just in a shorter time frame.

So if I’m not restricting calories, how does Intermittent Fasting help to lose fat?!

  1. Intermittent Fasting can help your hormones regulate. Insulin and leptin resistance are often causes of stubborn weight gain. With intermittent fasting, our bodies learn to resist these hormones less, enabling faster fat loss. Blood sugar levels also become more stable. Have you ever found yourself feeling shaky and weak due to low blood sugar, even though you ate an hour ago? Intermittent Fasting can help to stabilize your levels which will allow you to keep your diet in check. You won’t feel the need to eat every two hours!

  2. While you are fasting each day, your body has to use fat for fuel as it repairs itself. This is not to be confused with calorie restriction or a starvation diet! Your body is still getting the calories and fuel it needs for the day; they are just consumed in a shorter time frame. During your fast, you may find yourself engaging in fasted cardio to promote even more fat loss, or focusing on hydration - something we often push to the side day to day!

  3. It’s difficult to overeat with a smaller eating window! When you know you will break your fast at noon and will stop eating at 8pm, you may find that you become fuller with bigger meals and seek out less snacks.

Intermittent Fasting is a great tool for fat loss. It was truly a game changer for me and my journey, and I know many of my clients feel the same! As our hormones regulate, our bodies repair themselves, and our appetites change, our bodies learn to burn fat for fuel - rather than glucose and sugar - optimal for fat loss!
