How the FASTer Way to Fat Loss can Work for the Whole Family

The FASTer Way to Fat Loss is a program that I am so passionate about and hope to create the same sense of passion within each of my clients that enroll in my bootcamps. A question I am often posed with is, “How can I make this work for my whole family?” Today, I’d like to give a few ways you can make this program work for you and your entire family.

  • Lead by example. Our kids look up to us. They look to us to learn how to tie their shoes, ride their bicycle, and do other daily tasks. Why should eating healthy and exercising regularly be any different? Model to them what a healthy plate looks like and be enthusiastic! What better way to spend daily quality time together than sitting around the dinner table? Trust me! If they seem hesitant to stray away from the norm at first, I promise they’ll thank you later for helping them create healthy lifestyle habits when they are older.

  • Involve them! If you are familiar with the FWTFL, you know that the nutrition program focuses upon low carb and high carb days with an emphasis on a gluten free and dairy free diet. As you are cutting up veggies to roast in the oven or preparing a new GF casserole recipe you came across, have them jump in! They will love to mix ingredients, preheat the oven, or even dice up an onion. Explain to them what you are doing, and why you’re family is starting this new lifestyle. Education is power, friends!

  • Create adaptable meals. My family LOVES tacos. However, I try to avoid the tortilla or shell most times. Does this mean my family can’t enjoy them? No! Instead, I cook up all of the components of a good taco - tomatoes, cheese, chicken, onion, corn, lettuce, tortillas, etc. - and simply make the lettuce the base of my meal rather than the tortilla. We all are able to enjoy the same meal together around the table and leave satisfied!

  • Try fun alternatives. My family also loves a meal with burgers and fries. The burger could be cooked and easily adapted, but how about the fries?! Believe it or not, there are so many alternatives out there that the whole family will enjoy! Rather than frying the potatoes, they could be baked until crisp. For even more nutritional content, try substituting your regular Yukon potato for a sweet potato or yam. If you’re watching your carb intake for that day, a turnip is a great choice! Cut thin, season to your taste (I like to keep it simple with salt and pepper), bake for approximately 30 minutes at 350 degrees, and enjoy!

The FASTer Way to Fat Loss is easily adaptable for the whole family. Explaining that this is a new lifestyle that you will be taking on and asking your family to commit to it may be tricky at first, but will be so worth it in the long run!
