How to maximize your time in the gym for the best results.
I work with tons of busy women who have no time for an hour and half gym workout each day, which is why I am always looking for ways to help ladies maximize their time in the gym. Working out does not have to take over your life in order to see results. In fact, you can work out smarter so you don’t have to workout longer, and get BETTER results than doing those uber-long workouts! Here are three ways to maximize your time in the gym for the best results of your life!
1. Have a Plan
Do not walk into the gym and try and wing it! That is a sure way to waste time. If you want to maximize your time in the gym, you have to walk in with a plan. If you are following someone else’s plan, be sure you have looked up the moves you will be doing that day so you don’t have to do it during your workout. Make sure you have your plan readily available (screen shot it on your phone for easy access), so you aren’t searching for it at the gym.
If you are creating your own plan, be sure to write it down in a way that makes sense for your gym. Think about what machines are near each other and do your best to build a workout that considers time in between moves. Whatever you do, be sure you know exactly what you will be doing prior to stepping foot into the gym.
2. Focus on Compound Moves
When crunched for time, don’t waste your time with moves that focus on one muscle. Instead, utilize compound moves that work more than one muscle group at time. Not only will this help you get out of the gym quicker, it is actually a more effective way to functionally train your muscles. Very rarely do we use a single muscle in real life movement. Working multiple muscle groups better prepares your body for what it does every day. In addition, it will require your body to utilize more energy...aka..calories...which will up your metabolic rate and help you burn fat more effectively.
3. Do Smart Cardio
Gone are the days of hour long, steady-state cardio. If you want to get in and out of the gym quickly, while burning fat more effectively, then back away from the treadmill girl! Instead, focus on sprints, HIIT, and speed burst training. These workouts will save you loads of time (they usually take about 8-10 minutes) and will have your body burning calories for hours after you finish your workout. Some HIIT workouts are as short as 4 minutes long. If you are pressed for time, try a quick Tabata at the end of your strength training workouts. Ladies, I am here to tell you that you never have to spend another hour on the treadmill again if you don’t want to. You can get lean, strong and build your endurance in just a few minutes at the end of every workout.
Using your time in the gym wisely is a lot simpler than you might think. However, if you aren’t familiar with how to effectively create your own workouts then the gym can feel pretty intimidating.
