Benefits of Grapefruit
Do you eat grapefruit regularly? I know I don't, as I often over look them! But the past few weeks, I have been craving something sweet and tangy in my diet and I decided to add them in to my diet and do a bit more research on them. Benefits of Grapefruit
- Promotes weight loss. What?! Yes, grapefruit can actually promote weight loss. According to The Scripps Clinic 'Grapefruit Diet' study, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, a half of grapefruit consumed before each meal can result in improved insulin resistance.
- Lower blood pressure and increased heart health. Yep! The powerful nutrients in grapefruits can actually improve heart health and lower your blood pressure.
- Improved digestion. Grapefruit is FULL of water and fiber and these combined can improve your digestion greatly! It helps decrease constipation as well as keeps you hydrated.
- Clear skin. We all want this, right?! Grapefruit is full of vitamin C (which plays a roll in our collagen levels) and can clear up skin when eaten in it's raw and natural state.
Who knew that grapefruits had so many benefits?!
So try this yummy fruit in it's natural form this week. Here is a quick recipe I pulled together to mix things up a bit. Enjoy!
1 large grapefruit 1 tsp cinnamon 2 Tbsp dairy-free coconut yogurt 1 tsp dairy-free butter
Slice a large grapefruit in half and place on a baking sheet and turn on your oven to Broil. Brush the open halves of the grapefruit with the melted butter and then sprinkle with cinnamon on each. Place in oven to broil with raw sides up. Broil for about 8 minutes while rotating the grapefruits throughout. Pull out of oven and place 1 Tbsp coconut yogurt on top of each. Enjoy
