Can you spot reduce belly fat?
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Let me break the news to you… you CANNOT spot reduce body fat around the mid-section by adding in more crunches! Doing ab exercises will NOT target and reduce fat. This is a huge misconception and frankly, you are wasting your time doing all those crunches. The body does not utilize fat stores from the ‘closest’ muscle worked. Instead, when using fat stores as energy, your body pulls from all over. It’s true that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn but it does not mean that crunches will lower your belly fat! So then how do you get rid of that blasted belly fat? Three things… DIET, WEIGHT LIFTING, and CARDIO
Yes… diet is KEY! The common phrase “abs are made in the kitchen” is very true. As much as we wish it wasn’t - diet is key to getting those abs you want! Focus on clean, nutritious foods! Lifting weights is also important when trying to blast that belly fat. The more muscles you have overall, the more calories you burn at rest. Did you know that 1 lb of muscle burns 20 calories a day by just being there?! And 1 lb of fat only burns up to 5 calories! What?! You want to burn more calories… build that muscle up! And…. the dreaded cardio word. Yes, I said it. You need cardio. As much as I hate it, I have to accept that I NEED it. But let me recommend a more efficient way to get your cardio on… INTERVAL TRAINING! Check out info on that here! So all in all, it’s a combination of DIET, WEIGHT TRAINING & CARDIO to get rid of that belly fat. You can NOT spot reduce by doing more crunches - ain’t nobody got time for that! Cheers!
